At first I thought that many photographs that I have taken would capture a fleeting moment, but after some consideration and browsing through my photos, I found this is not the case; something was missing or a lack of something in my photos. Capturing a fleeting moment is much harder than I ever expected.
I have read about and attempted Street Photography during the past several months, but haven’t captured much that I am happy with. Somewhere I remember reading an article, I wish I could remember where and who, were a street photographer said that the majority of your street images will be trash, and that the best thing to do is just get into the habit of having your camera with you all the time, to increase your chances of catching one of these rare, fleeting moments.
I captured the shot below as I was walking toward my train station to go to work, I had a relatively easy Saturday with a sizable break and thought it would be a good idea to bring my camera with me. As I was walking to the station on my way to work, where there is a small drainage canal for runoff water during storms, I saw these two train company employees taking a break along the edge. I found it rare to see workers, such as them, relaxing in this style. The weather that day was warm and wonderful, no doubt they were trying to enjoy the moment as best as they could, same as I was going to do with my camera during my break.
These past couple of weeks I have been carrying my camera with me a great deal more, these past five days I have had my camera with me all day and take time before work, during my breaks, or after work to walk around and snap some shots. It’s been a great feeling of getting something accomplished, however my photography workflow on my pc has been suffering and I need to get caught up on it. This also marks, I am fairly certain, the first time that I altered and posted a photo to be in black and white, I am not certain how well it turned out; any thoughts or suggestions for improvement?

This is one kick-ass shot
. Thank you for the pingback
I guess it means you liked my submission? I like your writing style, and it is not something I say often… not that I call myself an authority on writing especially as I am not a native English speaker, but your style sits nicely with me
Good luck!
Your sunset photo is quite beautiful. I am not sure what kind of style my writing it is, generally it seems to work for me and others who enjoy reading it. Thanks again for the lovely comment.
Well, style was not the right word… I like what you have to say and the way you say it
. Now, that’s better.
Often things that I write are written on the spur of the moment, especially for my daily posts. I have to agree that I don’t really have a style, nor do I think I want one, I just want to express what I am thinking and let my fingers do the rest … then read over it several times and worry about spelling, and grammar … I over think things from time to time
This is a wonderful shot, Kristopher! You really captured a moment!
Glad you liked it, at first I wasn’t sure if I captured anything but I am glad that i took it
I’m so unconfident of capturing good street photography that I’ve not een tried. I really like this shot though, I think the black and white really does it justice. Well done.
Thanks, I too am nervous about doing street photography, and often chicken-out at the last moment or over-think and miss an opportunity. I recommend trying it out just one or two shots at a time.
Do not chicken-out!!!
I’ll do my best not to chicken out, most of the time haha
Great shot.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping by!
LOVE it! and the black and white makes it grittier and definitely more “street!”.
Glad you loved it, I was nervous about trying it in black and white at first. I may have to try b&w more often in the future.

Great casual moment with workers and I love the train in the background.
Thanks, lucky I was at the right place at that moment, a few seconds later and both trains would have been gone
Nice capture…
Yes… keep your camera with you… you will not regret it…
Thanks, I am definitely not regretting having my camera with me often, perhaps when it gets hotter I will complain about it, but for now I am not.
I like it and the shot of the train workers is special… a rare fleeting moment. Keep going.
It’s great to hear encouragement, I will keep trying to capture moments like these
That’s a great shot – really capturing a moment – and telling a story too, which I think is such an important aspect of street photography. And in black and white – all the distractions obliterated and the trains rushing past, the precarious ledges the guys are on, and their intent, helmeted heads become the whole picture. It’s great.
The color photo has a different feeling to it that is for sure, being at the right place at the right time was also helpful!
For me the story helps me to reconnect, and I hope offers others a view into my day at that time.
Hopefully I can capture some more great street shots in the future, thanks for the nice words
You’re welcome. I like to try and have a bit of a chat with people who produce photographs that grab my attention. I’m enjoying your work:)
It’s great to have conversations like this, it encourages me to get out and take more photos. Well hopefully a couple of other photos will grab your attention as well, dialogue between people is great and important.
It’s what blogging’s all about, Kristopher:)

It’s excellent and a great choice for black and white!
The black and white was refreshing to do, something that I hadn’t done before. And probably wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for this weeks challenge.

Considering the title of your blog “ortographies” you should worry about such things. Kristopher, may I suggest something? You can only have one or two replies from a person on a post linked to your reply, and this can be increased to even 10 replies in your general settings… I think it is necessary now that you have stumbled on a chatter like me
Excellent! Thanks for the help
I wonder if it works already???
Appears to be working I think!
Great
How is your day Kristopher?
Long busy day, finally relaxing now.
Ah, you sound tired? Is it 11 pm there already? We are having a heat wave in Croatia now, and I am looking forward to my holidays in the Alps next week .)
Had an early night last night, been relatively cool here. Seems to be heating up today though
Excellent picture. Nice in black and white. Would love to see this in a sepia tone…
Sepia might be too wild for me at the moment! Perhaps on another occasion I might give it a try

Thanks kindly, I enjoyed your photos and openness of how hard it can be to take photographs of people.
